Don't
you just love St. Patrick's Day, darlings? Especially because we look EVAH so
adorable in green.. speaking of which.. the whole green thingy has inspired
a ~ ta da ~
St.
Patrick's Dia Digression!
Say whaaaaaaat?
SAY! We can digress on anything and if you don't think so get a load of this one...
Was there ever an Irish brazen hussy as luscious as Maureen O'Hara ? Tall and strong and feisty as all get out but sexy and va~va~voomy too. And if there's a perfecto St. Paddy's day flick to get you in a romantically Irish mood, it has to be "The Quiet Man" (l952) directed by John Ford and, natch, as if anyone on the planet didn't know, starring John Wayne opposite Maureen's flaming haired, spirited portrayal of Mary Kate Danaher.
It's
like this, sweeties. Big
hunka hunka
testosterone overloaded Sean Thorton has returned to Ireland
from America to run away from some deep, dark, depressing goings~ons
from his days as a fighter and, of course, he glimpses Mary Kate and he's
a goner... only she's not
going to be pushed around and he's not sure how to handle her un-push-around-ness,
and then things get all pugnacious and teary but never bleary (although
sometimes beer-y, but this is Ireland, you know) and in
the end everything is sunshine and green and kisses and... oh, if you
haven't ever seen this slugfest/love fest go out and rent it today, darlings!
Here are some of our fav moments:
"it's a bold one you are! Who gave you leave to be kissin' me?" ~ Maureen O'Hara as Mary Kate.
"So you CAN talk!" ~ John Wayne as Sean Thornton
"Yes! I can, I will and I do! And it's more than talk you'll be gettin' if you step a step closer to me!" ~ Mary Kate
"Don't worry - you've got a wallop!" ~ Sean
"You'll get over it, I'm thinkin'." ~ Mary Kate
"Well, some things a man doesn't get over so easy." ~ Sean (editor's note ~ because we can't help ourselves ~~ yep... it's BRAZEN HUSSIES a man doesn't get over so easy, natch... but we digress again)
"Like what, supposin'?" ~ Mary Kate
"Like the sight of a girl coming through the fields with the sun on her hair... kneeling in church with a face like a saint..." ~ Sean
"Saint indeed!" ~ Mary Kate
OK, so your St. Patrick's day is a bit on the... well... darker side? As in, feeling a bit NOIR, perchance? What about perusing that tres odd Orson Welles flick, "The Lady from Shanghai" (made in l947 as Orson and Rita Hayworth's marriage was dissolving and he was pissy and our theory is that's why he made her dye her hair blonde and whack it off and shot her at odd angles.. but she still looks pretty hussyfied)... So what the heck is THIS film noir doing in our Irish dish... why lads and lassies, listen up, and SEE what you can learn in Hussiedom!

The
original title of the movie was ~ ta da ~ "Black
Irish".
So we can TOO add
some fave quotes... and, besides, Orson Welles plays Michael O'Hara,
a good Irish nombre, n'est ce pas, (we are feeling sooooo bi, or is
it tri, today... Bi ~ LINGUAL, darlings..
sheesh)
"Maybe I'll live so long that I'll forget her. Maybe I'll die trying!" ~ Orson Welles as O'Hara (and we bet he had Rita on his mind when he read that line)...
"That's how I found her and from that moment I did not use my head, except to think about her." ~ O'Hara (see above... thinking of Rita again?)...
"I don't know how to shoot?" ~ Rita Hayworth as Elsa
"It's easy, you just pull the trigger." ~ O'Hara
That's all
for now, darlings.. go dance a jig, jet over to the Emerald Isle or rev
up some U2 music
and have a brazenly fabulous St. Patrickís Day!
We leave your with our own version of a Brazen Irish Hussy's Wish for you:
May
the road rise to meet you |
(and
may there be a limo with a driver waiting for you...) |
May
the wind be always at your back |
(and
not mess your new 'do) |
May
the sun shine warm upon your face |
(and
not give you a single
wrinkle!) |
And until
we meet again, may you go out there and do something so BRAZEN people
gasp,
"It's no blarney ~ that lass is a true Irish Hussy!"
